Project description

This research will produce cement paste. The paste will resist high temperatures by adding UV pre-treated polypropylene in the form of powder and fibre to the cement paste. I will use cement paste of cylinder size of 40mm in diameter and 80mm in height.

I will quantify compressive strength, stiffness, transient thermal creep, and creep recovery. I will use the results to optimise or to come up with new and better material.

The research will develop a detailed understanding of how the new materials work. I will consider the microstructure and micro-mechanism. These can be:

  • melting of polypropylene
  • interface between polypropylene and cement paste at high temperature
  • pore size and permeability
