Project description

Advanced control systems can improve accuracy, reliability and pollution protection in dynamic positioning (DP) activities. They can minimise the probability of human error. This can provide time to react in any weather window while maintaining safe drilling operations. I am exploring the potential operational impacts of using such systems.

Methodology and objectives

I will design and build a time domain DP simulation model for a drilling platform. The model will including PID control and thruster allocation. I will then apply advanced control methods such as Artificial intelligence (AI), or develop and overcome the existing Neural Networks (NN) system constraints. I will then compare control systems.

Result

I will produce a case study analysis in real weather conditions at oil and gas fields such as the North Sea, the Gulf of Mexico and the Red Sea.

Qualifications

MSc in Maritime Systems from Stevens Institute of Technology, USA.
