Special Collections and Archives exhibition area, Level 2, Philip Robinson Library.

Visit our latest Special Collections and Archive’s exhibition Let the Lion Roar! Newcastle University at 60 and learn more about the University’s history.

2023 marked 60 years since the formal separation of King’s College from Durham University and the creation of Newcastle University. This new exhibition from our Special Collections and Archives team tells the story of Newcastle University and how it has responded to changes in politics, technology, and wider society over its first 60 years. Themes explored include an expanding campus, the broadening of teaching and research activities, and changes in the student life.

The exhibition traces these developments and highlights significant people and events through our rich archival materials.

Available until April 2024, the exhibition is open to members of the University and visitors, so join us for this opportunity to discover more about the civic history of Newcastle University.
