Using the Library during the summer vacation

9 June 2023

If you are studying this summer, be that for dissertations, postgraduate study or resits this August, there's lots of help available from your Library.

What's available?

First and foremost, all our Library buildings are still open for business during the summer vacation. Check the Library website for opening hours when planning your visit.

If you are away from campus, look for online resources via Library Search by filtering your search to show results that are ‘full text online’. This will limit your search to e-books, online journals and databases, e-theses and other electronic resources.

Don’t forget to use your Subject Guide to find useful journals, databases and e-book collections tailored for your course.

Can’t find your Library resources? You can recommend a book that’s not held in the Library, or we can see if we can get the item via interlibrary loan – no harm in asking!

Getting help

Library Help remains available 24/7 to assist with your queries – you can send them in via email or live chat or browse the Library’s FAQs.

You can still organise online or in-person one-to-one appointments with your Librarian or with the Academic Skills Team throughout the summer. So, if you feel you need a bit of extra support with your academic skills, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

The Academic Skills Kit is full of helpful advice, covering all aspects of study from how to manage your time effectively, to reading and note-taking, to getting started with your dissertation. There’s also guidance on exams and revision techniques, including where to go for academic advice or personal support. You'll find resources covering online examinations too. These are broken down into helpful categories: how to revise for an online exam, what to do before an online exam and exam technique.
