Students’ good results might have different meanings. It might indicate their understanding or active engagement in the course content, interest in the subject or motivation towards academic achievements. 

What might you do?

You might not need to comment on their grades individually. However, you can use Canvas New Analytics to filter students with high course grades and

• Motivate the students by giving them positive encouragement.
• Ask what has helped them achieve their results and what could help them maintain this, particularly about course content or activities on Canvas.

Students are not performing well as shown in their Course Grades

What could this mean?

Students not performing well in an assessment could be for many reasons. They might have personal, external or teaching and learning influences that cause their attainment.

What might you do?

You can respond to this to benefit the students learning. Use Canvas New Analytics to filter students with low scores,

• Contact them individually and invite them to reflect on their learning processes and/or concerns they believe are the cause of their grades.
• Avoid making assumptions, particularly with regard to their engagement in course content.
• Start a conversation whether they found the material useful, what was particularly helpful or challenging, and what could help them in future.
• Remind students that their grades remain confidential, and they can open up to reflect on their learning.
