The Black Engineering Network

The Black Engineering Network is an inclusive space for Black and Global Majority undergraduate and postgraduate students to build networks and find a sense of community, connectedness and belonging across the School of Engineering.

It's a space where students can find representation, support each other to thrive and engage in activities to support their success. This Network was established in response to the findings from the Narrowing the Degree Awarding Gap in Engineering Pilot Project

We will share details of past and upcoming events here so students can see what the network has to offer.

The Network space is co-created and developed by a committee of students and staff from the School of Engineering. If you would like to join the Network and mailing list please click the link below.

Informal networking event

In February 2024 the Black Engineering Network welcomed a panel of recent Black Graduate Alumni working in the Engineering industry. Alumni shared the challenges and successes of their student journey and progression into industry. The panel consisted of Liam Obuobie, Nathan Tshibuyi, Micha Newman and Lightness Kings. The event saw over 60 students in attendance and opportunities were created for students to network with and meet other students within the School of Engineering. Students found the event ‘informative’ and ‘insightful’ to hear from graduates and asked for further events where they can network with and learn from Alumni.

Revision Techniques

Nathan Tshibuyi and Liam Obuobie, our Black Engineering Network Executive Committee Alumni members, delivered a revision techniques session in March 2024. They shared various techniques for successful revision and their top tips and advice. Students have recommended the session and we will be delivering the session again in the Autumn.
