Newcastle Science City
The University is a lead partner in the Newcastle Science City initiative which promotes Newcastle as a city of science across the world.
It is one of only six cities in the UK to be given the status as a focal point for transforming the best ideas and discoveries into new products and services.
As part of city-wide partnership, it aims to maximise the potential of our science base by helping to create new businesses, attract investment, strengthen science networks and ensure that local people can become part of our continued scientific achievement.
The University’s contribution to Newcastle Science City is rooted in our research excellence in sustainability, ageing and health and stem cell and regenerative medicine coupled with our innovation activities.
Its focus is around three key locations across the city:
- The Campus for Ageing and Vitality, where the challenge of healthy ageing is being tackled
- The International Centre for Life, already recognised as a world-leading centre for stem cell research
- Science Central, in the heart of the city centre, will become a home for the development of the sustainable sciences such as energy, marine and transport.
