Scholarships and Bursaries

We invest millions of pounds in financial support for students who choose to come and study here.

Investment in scholarships

Each year, we invest in scholarship schemes to support new eligible undergraduate students to study with us. From partial to full awards, subject-specific scholarships, and external funding opportunities, we’ll guide you through the options available for you to consider. 

Scholarships for UK and EU domiciled students

We have three main scholarship schemes available: 

  1. our Opportunity Scholarships are assessed based on household income. You could be eligible for up to £2,000 per year a cash bursary per year.  If you do receive an Opportunity Scholarship, you may also be eligible to apply for a Goyal Foundation Scholarship too.
  2. Cowrie Scholarship Foundation - This Foundation offers two scholarships to support Black African and Caribbean Heritage applicants from socio-economically under-represented backgrounds. 
  3. St Nicholas’ Educational Trust Scholarship supports students coming to our university from Newcastle and the surrounding area. 

Subject-specific scholarships

Some of Faculties and Schools offer scholarships or bursaries for specific subject areas or degrees. 

Newcastle University Sanctuary Scholarships

We’re proud to support equal access to higher education and these scholarships enable students from asylum-seeker backgrounds to progress to university.

Rewarding Elite Athletes

If you’ve played sport at a regional, national, or international standard within the last 12 months, you could be eligible for up to £5,000 worth of funding.
