Subject Scholarships
A number of subjects and degrees offer financial support or prizes to students. Information on specific eligibility criteria is available below.

Ubisoft Scholarship
For the first time this year we are able to offer two Ubisioft scholarships for gifted students from a Black background.
Students will have their fees waived for their three-year undergraduate study. They will also receive a personal stipend of £2,000 each year to help with living costs.
Ubisoft gives the students an ongoing programme of mentorship throughout their years of study. A three month paid internship will also follow this.
Eligibility criteria for scholars and applicants for 2021 entry
1. Applicants must have home/UK status student for tuition fees and student finance.
2. Applicants must identify themselves as Black African or Caribbean heritage. This includes applicants of mixed race. Additionally applicants should match some of the PARTNERS eligibility criteria.
3. Applicants must have applied to study by the UCAS deadline of 15th January 2021. The should also have received an offer to study on an undergraduate Computer Science programme in September 2021.
4. Applicants must have already applied to Student Finance for a tuition fee loan and maintenance loan. This includes England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. They must have gone through assessment and received confirmation of this. The confirmation should state that they will receive full financial support.
5. Applicant’s tuition fees should not be being paid (in full or part) by a sponsor or any other professional body.
6. Applicants should not have studied in higher education previously. We can only consider applicants with exceptional circumstances outside these criteria.
How to apply
Following receipt of an offer to study Computer Science with us, students will receive an application form to complete. You must submit your application to the School of Computing by 30th May 2021.
Terms & Conditions of the Ubisoft Scholarship
We will award two scholarships during the 2021 academic year.
We will make scholarships payments to the recipient following registration each academic year. We make these payments in instalments each semester. Scholarship payments are not designed made for repeat years of study.
The School reserves the right to end the bursary if the recipient withdraws from their degree programme.
The value of the scholarship is £11,250 per annum for 3 years of study, which covers tuition fees plus a £2000 bursary.
We will inform the winners of the scholarship when they register for a Computer Science degree programme with us.

The Clyde Higgs Scholarships are generously funded by the Elizabeth Creak Charitable Trust which aims to help the advancement of Agriculture.
Details
Six awards of £5,000 each are available for incoming Stage 1 undergraduate home students in the School of Natural and Environmental Sciences enrolled on one of the following courses:
- Agri-business Management
- Agriculture
- Agriculture with Agronomy
- Agriculture with Animal Production Science
- Agriculture with Farm Business Management
- Animal Science
- Environmental Science
- Countryside Management
- Rural Studies
- Applied Plant Science
The award will be spread equally over the duration of the course of study.

To be eligible for this award you must:
- be a home student, ordinarily resident in the UK
- have been accepted onto one of the above courses
- be entering Stage 1 in 2020

Two awards of £2,000 per year for all years of study is available to support students coming to study at Newcastle University via the PARTNERS Programme in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects.
Eligibility
To be eligible for this award, you must be:
- entering Newcastle University via the PARTNERS Programme
- intending to study in a STEM Subject
You must also demonstrate in your application your commitment to studies and aspirations for your future, how the scholarship will make a difference to you, and how your desired studies and career ambitions will contribute to a fairer and/or more sustainable society.

The Alan Skelton Bursary is directed at Stage 3 mature students (over 25) preferably from the North East. The bursary allows us to award £1,250 per year to a mature student on the History degree programme.
Eligibility
To be eligible for this award you must:
be a mature student (over 25) in the third year of the BA History programme at Newcastle University in 2020-21;

To apply, simply need to write a short statement (maximum 500 words) saying something about your background, why you are applying for the bursary and what difference the money would make to your life and studies.

Details
This bursary has been given gladly in loving memory of a dear mother, grandmother and graduate in History from King’s College Durham (now Newcastle University). Devoted to education, Mary Spencer was a dedicated, creative teacher of many subjects, including history, for almost fifty years. As the wife of an RAF Officer, she taught throughout the UK, Zimbabwe, Cyprus and Libya.
One bursary is available to students entering the third year of the BA History programme. An award of £1,000 will be paid in two instalments across the third year of study and application is by competitive process.
Eligibility
To be eligible for this award you must:
- be a student in the third year of the BA History programme at Newcastle University in 2019-20;
- have achieved an overall mark of 65 or over in your second year of study;
- have been in part-time employment during term time for the equivalent of one full semester (12 weeks) of your degree programme so far;
How to apply
Applications must be received no later than 31 January 2021. All fields of the application form must be completed.
Applications will be judged on financial need, academic potential and quality of application.
Recipients are required to give an annual update on their progress and be available to meet the donor annually if requested.

Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust - Building Futures Bursary
Details
The School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape is able to offer two Stephen Lawrence bursary awards for young people from Black Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) backgrounds to study architecture.
Students on the scheme will have their fees waived for their three-year undergraduate study.
Eligibility
To be eligible for one of the bursaries, students should apply to study architecture (K100) at Newcastle following the usual UCAS process. Following receipt of an offer to study architecture at Newcastle University, students should complete the attached application form

Undergraduate Music Scholarships
Details
Four £5,000 scholarships are available to new undergraduate students entering a degree offered by Newcastle University’s International Centre for Music Studies in September 2021.
- Two David Barlow Scholarships
- Valentine Ord Scholarship
- Isobel Preece Scholarship
We will award the scholarship in the first year of study and pay it in two equal instalments, the first in December 2021 and the second in April 2022.
Eligibility
To be considered for a scholarship, you must hold an offer of admission for
- BA Honours Music (W300)
- BMus Honour Music (W304)
- BA Honours Contemporary and Popular Music (W301)
- or BA Honours Folk and Traditional Music (W344)
You must have also attended an Interview Day (academic interview and audition), and be a new UK, EU or international student commencing your studies in 2021.
Successful candidates may not be in receipt of other funding from the University.
How to apply
You do not need to apply for these scholarships. Eligible candidates will automatically be considered for a scholarship on the basis of their academic merit, musical track record and performance at an Interview Day.
Successful candidates will be notified in April 2021 and must firm accept our offer to receive the scholarship.

Eligibility
Applicants will be eligible to apply via a form that will be emailed to offer holders. The closing date for applying will be 25 June 2020.
Applicants from the following countries are not eligible to apply for the FUES awards: Algeria, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Jordan, Kenya, Lebanon, Malaysia, Morocco, Thailand, Turkey, the USA and Vietnam. The University offers specific schemes for these countries.
Applicants are assessed on the following requirements, via their grades and personal statement.
You must demonstrate:
- a knowledge of Newcastle University and a commitment to studying at Newcastle University
- programme research (e.g. demonstrate you have looked at the modules on this course and show knowledge of the structure)
- academic excellence, including English language
Personal statements will be reviewed and shortlisted by the International Lead for each School. A final decision will be made by the Dean of Undergraduate and Taught Programmes.
If approved, you will be offered a scholarship conditionally by 1 August 2020, and will be confirmed once all academic and English language requirements have been met.
Scholarships are reviewed annually, and students need to meet academic progression in all modules at 60% or higher.
The following students are not eligible to receive the Faculty of Medical Sciences UG Excellence Scholarship:
- UK or EU students assessed as 'home' for fee purposes
- holders of fully funded scholarships (full payment of fees and living expenses) such as Chevening Scholarships, Commonwealth Scholarships or other fully sponsored awards
- holders of any other scholarships, including the Vice-Chancellor's International Scholarships, Vice-Chancellor's Excellence Scholarships and the Vice-Chancellor's Global Scholarships
- students in receipt of India Great Scholarships or Santander Scholarships
- pathway students progressing to University from INTO Newcastle
- current students, registered in 2018/19 or earlier, who have already commenced their undergraduate studies at the time of award. Awards cannot be made retrospectively
- applicants initially assessed as international for fee purposes but whose fees change to 'home'

Patch Fund at the Community Foundation. The award is from a generous anonymous benefactor to assist students, from the North East, with their Dental studies

Up to five awards are available to Dental students from the North East. The award is worth £1,000 for the first four stages of study.

To be eligible for this award you must:
- be a stage one undergraduate student in Dentistry;
