Teaching and Student Experience

Teaching and Student Experience

At Newcastle, we provide quality teaching and a great student experience. Our awards, accreditations and student satisfaction survey results demonstrate our commitment.

Teaching quality

Newcastle University was founded in 1834 to educate the pioneers of the industrial revolution. Teaching was then, and is still, at the heart of our University: at Newcastle we educate for life, to develop and nurture successive generations of creative practitioners, clinicians, scientists, engineering and educationalists, and set them on the path to make their own mark on society.

Student experience

As a university with a global reputation, we work hard to make sure our students receive a great experience. The high-quality student experience at Newcastle University is reflected in our rankings.

We're joint 9th in Europe with 93% of students indicating they would recommend the University to family or friends, Times Higher Education Europe Teaching Rankings 2018. We received a first place award in the University Compare Student Experience Awards 2017.

The overall satisfaction levels for students on pathway programmes at INTO Newcastle University centre is 94% - the highest satisfaction of INTO's eight UK centres.

It's not just the academic student experience we're good at. Our Students' Union won Students’ Union of the Year in the Educate North Awards 2018, and there was a 97% satisfaction rate for our Students’ Union in the Autumn 2017 International Student Barometer

We also have a reputation for sporting excellence. We're ranked top ten in the British Universities and Colleges Sports League (BUCS) 2017-18, for the third year in a row.

I have found my lecturers to be well qualified, really kind and ready to help if you have any problem or issue.
