Aims

1.       To heighten awareness of modern Chinese drama among Chinese postgraduate students and home undergraduate students of Chinese;
2.       Enhancement of translation skills, particularly with regard to colloquial, everyday language, something which students do not always have easy access to in the academic environment;
3.       Experience of literary and drama translation;
4.       Knowledge of wider issues in drama translation particularly with regard to publication and with regard to the receiving audience;
5.       Knowledge of issues relating to stage production which affect translation
6.       Involvement in international professional collaboration in translation, editing and production of the drama;
7.       Enhancement of language skills, and introduction and enhancement of public speaking skills.

Assessment Rationale And Relationship

The portfolio assessment is aimed to encourage the student to reflect on the various professional and academic aspects of the module. These may include an academic approach to the translation work, reflections and analyses of the administrative aspects of the whole project. The formative assessment of the target text by means of critical discussion will provide a basis and guidance for students in the summative portfolio.
