Aims

The aim of this module is to develop a deeper understanding of selected core and current research issues and areas in the discipline of Accounting.

Outline Of Syllabus

The module will offer deep insights into Accounting research streams and areas which are core to the discipline, current, and reflect the research specialisms and competencies of academic members of the Subject Groups, and beyond if and when required. As such, selected areas covered would typically come from, but would not be limited to:
- Accounting profession: past and present
- Auditing
- Board composition and diversity (gender, race, other characteristics)
- Corporate governance (shareholders, stakeholders, political connections, professional networks, etc.)
- Disclosure and transparency (CSR, EGR, other characteristics)
- Earnings management
- Management accounting

Lectures constitute a forum to present deep insights into, and comprehensive overviews of, selected topics in Accounting, as well as opportunities for discussions and clarifications of outstanding issues.
Students may be requested to conduct independent study of the session-relevant literature prior to lectures taking place, to enable more in-depth discussions in lectures, and/or after lectures, to further develop and consolidate their knowledge and understanding of topics covered.
