Aims
To provide students with a foundation level knowledge and understanding of general, systematic and diagnostic pathology together with screening and treatment rationale in relation to cancer.

Teaching Rationale And Relationship
Through a series of online tutorials and weekly activities as well as private study (including directed reading) students will gain a detailed knowledge of the histopathology, cytology and general cancer pathology. Students are encouraged to participate in online collaborative discussions via the discussion boards and to maintain a portfolio to help consolidate their understanding of the curricula. Weekly case studies allow students to apply their knowledge to real life examples.

Assessment Rationale And Relationship
The learning outcomes are formally assessed using an online multiple choice exam and a detailed case review. The assessments will require the students to apply the knowledge they have gained throughout the module. The questions will place emphasis on the translation of the basic cancer science aspects of pathology into the clinical setting, allowing students to critically appraise the appropriate pathological information in relation to the example.
For the case study students will be asked to present a case of their own (or if this is not possible will be offered one from a case bank). In addition to uploading their recorded presentation, students will present in their workplace.
Formative MCQ assessments allow students to monitor their understanding against the learning outcomes.
In order to pass this module candidates are required to achieve an overall pass mark of 50 or above for both assessments in the module as well as the module overall.
