Aims

To consider theoretical approaches and empirical methodologies to child language development and to explore major empirical findings in the field. The PG seminars focus on language development in children with neuro-developmental disorders including Specific Language Impairment (SLI), dyslexia, and autism.

Outline Of Syllabus

Topics will include:

Major theoretical approaches to child language acquisition/development
Empirical methodologies for studying child language (production, comprehension, brain imaging)
Brain and language
Pre-linguistic sensitivities in infants
Discoveries in the acquisition of phonology, semantics, and syntax
Language development in bilingual children
Language in children with neuro-developmental disorders (e.g., Specific language development, autism, dyslexia)
