Teaching Rationale And Relationship
The mix of teaching methods is geared to develop knowledge of key theoretical concepts and enable to deliver practical elements of the programme.
Assessment Methods
The format of resits will be determined by the Board of Examiners
Exams
Description | Length | Semester | When Set | Percentage | Comment |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Oral Presentation | 15 | 2 | M | 10 | Two oral presentations in student-led seminars |
Other Assessment
Description | Semester | When Set | Percentage | Comment |
---|---|---|---|---|
Practical/lab report | 2 | A | 30 | Practical/Lab report (1000 words) advanced acoustic analyses of speech and Praat scripting |
Written exercise | 2 | A | 60 | Critical review of literature (3000 words) on any aspect theories and models of speech production and/or perception. |
Formative Assessments
Formative Assessment is an assessment which develops your skills in being assessed, allows for you to receive feedback, and prepares you for being assessed. However, it does not count to your final mark.
Description | Semester | When Set | Comment |
---|---|---|---|
Lab exercise | 2 | M | Checking Praat script with students and advanced acoustic analyses |
Performance | 2 | M | Oral presentation performance. Peer review in form of questions. |
Assessment Rationale And Relationship
Practical/Lab report will require students to demonstrate theoretical knowledge and technical skills that they acquired throughout the module, in addition to the ability to write/modify a Praat script to suit their research area(s). The literature review will assess students’ skills in critical appraisal as well as the depth of their knowledge of one key aspect of the curriculum. And the Oral presentation will assess student’s ability to summarise and critically evaluate two articles related to their topic areas in production and perception.
