Aims

Students will develop a range of academic and professional skills (building on those learned in Stage
1). The module will help to prepare students for their research projects, and will encourage refection
on how these skills can be applied throughout their university career and beyond

Outline Of Syllabus

Quantitative research: sampling and experimental design
Summary statistics, comparing categorical data, T tests ANOVA, Mann-Whitney, Kruskal-Wallis, Chisquared
Links between continuous data: univariate regression, correlation, interaction
Multivariate regression and ordination: PCA, RA, Factor analysis
Project planning and management
Advanced research and writing skills
Advanced literature search, writing skills, Endnote, critical review/impact assessment of papers
