Aims

To advance the students' general knowledge of current data communication technology with emphasis on cellular systems and multiple access methods

Outline Of Syllabus

Elements of mobile and cellular communication networks, frequency reuse, network planning, cell sectorisation, hand-over, commercial aspects.

Multiple access methods: Frequency Division Multiple Access (FDMA), Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA), Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA), Space Division Multiple Access (SDMA).

Third generation systems (3G): Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS), Terrestrial Radio Access, spectrum allocation, TD-SCDMA, HSDPA, WLAN integration, 64-QAM, Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO).

Fourth generation systems (4G, 4.5G), Long-Term Evolution (LTE) systems, features, LTE-TDD and LTE-FDD, precoding, forward error correction schemes, MIMO diversity, Hybrid OFDMA and SC-FDMA in uplink, frame and receiver structures.
