Aims
This is an optional capstone module for the N200 and N120/121 programmes.
The module aims to provide an opportunity for students, drawing on learning from across their programme of study, to undertake an independent analysis of a contemporary organisational issue related to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, to present an overview of existing research and formulate recommendations for a non-academic/practitioner audience in the form of a research briefing report.
This module aims to provide you with an opportunity to:
1. evaluate empirical evidence and management information to inform your understanding of a contemporary organisational issue related to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
2. appreciate the complexities and constant change in addressing organisational needs in challenging global contexts;
3. apply academic theory and concepts to analyse contemporary organisational issues including an appreciation of ethical considerations faced by organisations.
Outline Of Syllabus
There is no set syllabus for this module as it involves the opportunity for students to undertake independent research and analysis of a contemporary organisational issue related to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Students will draw explicitly from the knowledge and skill base of their programme of study overall to complete this management research briefing. Supporting learning activities will include the following topics:
Writing management research briefs e.g. identifying and selecting evidence, applying theoretical knowledge, critically analysing evidence, developing recommendations, considering ethical implications
Communicating to different audiences
Reflective practice e.g. continuous professional development

The module consists of a mix of taught sessions, tailored support sessions, and independent working supported with structured guided learning materials via Canvas.
The module is structured as follows:
• The taught sessions and relevant online learning materials will refresh student knowledge and understanding of the academic theories, concepts and
models relevant to the module, as well as developing project management and communication techniques;
• The formative assessment will give the module team the opportunity to provide feedback on theory knowledge and
understanding;
• The drop-in sessions will provide support to the students in the development of their assessment and in support of their independent study.

Assessment Rationale And Relationship
The module provides students with the opportunity to apply their learning to a contemporary organisational issue related to the range of topics they have studied throughout their programme of study. The assessments enable the students to develop their decision making, project management, report writing and reflective practice skills.
