To appreciate the constraints and challenges in creating sustainable transport infrastructure
To understand current road design standards, how to use and apply them
To understand the role of safety in high design
To understand road pavement, materials, design and maintenance requirements
To gain a wider appreciation of infrastructure for other modes of transport
