Aims

To provide the opportunity for students to undertake independent research in which they apply appropriate tools of economic analysis. Students are encouraged to apply their economic knowledge to a topic of particular interest to them. In this way they get a grasp of cutting edge research methods in Economics under the supervision of an experienced member of staff.

Outline Of Syllabus

The will be one meeting with the module leader at the beginning of the semester, in which students will be given guidelines for continuing with their project. Subsequently students are expected to make appointments with their supervisors. They are entitled to 3 hours of supervision taken at the demand of the student.

Teaching Rationale And Relationship

A detailed outline of the research project is developed in consultation with the supervisor. The student carries out the research, receiving additional guidance from the supervisor as required. A limit on the amount of supervision to be given enphasises the 'independent' nature of the project.
