Aims

To apply economic theory to analysing current economic issues
To develop research skills and independent thinking
To use data in order to test economic theories.

Outline Of Syllabus

This module takes the form of a project on a given applied economics topic. Teaching is structured around the topics for research offered to the students. Data skills are taught in dedicated skills sessions. Each student receives supervision from a dedicated supervisor.

Teaching Rationale And Relationship

The lectures outline the topics that the students may choose for their projects.
The practical skills sessions support students with data and writing skills.
The supervision sessions are for discussing the choice of topic, giving advice regarding the data, giving feedback on a draft and answering any questions.
The drop in sessions with the module leader support students if they have any questions throughout the year.
The guided independent study hours are for reading the assigned sources and doing independent research on the chosen topic, for building and practising the presentation, and for writing the project.
