Your programme is made up of credits, the total differs on programme to programme.
Semester 1 Credit Value: | 10 |
ECTS Credits: | 5.0 |
European Credit Transfer System |
Aims
To enhance the abilities of the student to apply material from formal lecture courses to the design or operation of a real engineering device or system.
Outline Of Syllabus
A design study, associated with a chosen lecture course, involving the attainment of a device or system specification. Design options must be carefully weighted and the reasons for choosing particular options presented in a final written report. An academic staff supervisor is available for consultation.

Teaching Rationale And Relationship
This module requires the student to address a problem which enhances their theoretical understanding of a given module by undertaking a piece of work in which he/she is wholly responsible but with the support of an academic supervisor.
Assessment Methods
The format of resits will be determined by the Board of Examiners
Other Assessment
Description | Semester | When Set | Percentage | Comment |
---|---|---|---|---|
Report | 1 | M | 100 | 2000-word final report (maximum allowed for 10-credit module) |
Formative Assessments
Formative Assessment is an assessment which develops your skills in being assessed, allows for you to receive feedback, and prepares you for being assessed. However, it does not count to your final mark.
Description | Semester | When Set | Comment |
---|---|---|---|
Report | 1 | M | 2 – 3 page progress report to check student design work. |
Assessment Rationale And Relationship
The short progress report is formatively assessed and provides the student and supervisor an opportunity to review project progress and discuss any issues at an early stage. Feedback from this report will inform the final summative report.
The final summative report will assess the students’ ability to describe their work, present and discuss results, and draw conclusions.
