Aims
Psychology has a long tradition of enquiry into human behaviour and the mind. Contemporary psychology is incredibly diverse, encompassing a range of perspectives and models of explanation. Psychological Enquiry 2: Principles of Psychology explores some of these different perspectives and the philosophies that underlie them. The aim is to encourage a nuanced insight into the nature of psychological enquiry and thereby develop your psychological literacy and identity as psychologists.
Outline Of Syllabus
Psychological Enquiry 2 is an integrative module that links together many of the other modules that you are studying within your degree by considering underlying conceptual questions. It builds on skills and knowledge that you developed in Psychology Enquiry 1 (PSY 1001) and History of Psychology (PSY 1007).
Themes include:
• The scientific method in psychology
• Postmodernism and social constructionism.
• Free will and consciousness
• Feminist perspectives
• Humanistic psychology

Teaching Rationale And Relationship
The lectures cover the core knowledge content of the module. The structured guided learning allows for practice and development of the academic skills. The scheduled workshops also provides support for the essay writing. Private study and homework will further guide students in developing knowledge and skill outcomes.

Assessment Rationale And Relationship
The essay aligns with the learning outcomes of the module. Formative feedback on drafts and guidance and training on writing will be given in person in weekly essay clinics.
If the module is failed students will resit failed assessments in the same format during the August resit period.
