Aims
To enable students to become more familiar with their chosen engineering discipline by doing work on a relevant topic with academic staff in that discipline. Introduction to basic library research and/or computing projects and /or industrial practices and similar skills in preparation for the demands of Stage 1 courses.
Guided research on a topic with self-study and private study to generate a quality report document on a specific topic within their chosen discipline.
Outline Of Syllabus
Taught theory and analytical methods are combined with 'capability' skills in problem solving and practical work.

Teaching Rationale And Relationship
The aim is to enable students to become familiar with some aspects of their chosen discipline whilst at the same time developing skills in research and report preparation. This is achieved by linking students to staff in their particular discipline and setting them a relevant project topic. Regular progress meetings with the students in each discipline group during the semester, on-line, enable direction to be given as the project progresses.
