Aims

The overall aim of this module is to provide students with the necessary skills to undertake their own research within the field of international business; through this process of discovery, students will be better able to understand, evaluate and critique knowledge within their field of study. This learning will predominantly be achieved through lectures and a series of practical sessions, where students will collect and analyse data, and address the issues involved in doing research.

Outline Of Syllabus

The module will introduce students to foundations and practical applications of research methods in international business and management. Topics normally include:
The purpose of research: understanding its role in knowledge creation and in management practice
Working with literature and evidence
Research approaches: qualitative and quantitative traditions and designs
Data collection and analysis
Research ethics and integrity
Interpreting and communicating findings

The module combines lectures with practical sessions; providing students with the knowledge required to understand, critique and realise research, and apply this knowledge in practical/hands-on/data-rich tasks. This combination of lectures and practical sessions fosters formal learning, as well as self-directed independent learning, which together enable the module's outcomes to be delivered.
