Data and Artificial Intelligence
Building a digital world you can trust.
Case studies
A connected community of data and AI expertise
Data and AI research at Newcastle spans all faculties and campuses. Our strength comes from the breadth of expertise across the University and strong connections between disciplines. Researchers, students, and partners work together to tackle complex questions that no single field can address alone.
Three Centres of Research Excellence provide the foundation for our approach. They deliver challenge-led research that addresses emerging opportunities and some of society’s most pressing issues.
- Centre for Data Science and AI: brings together researchers to use data to transform research, develop future leaders in data science, and share expertise for public benefit
- Centre for AI Safety: focuses on making AI systems safe, reliable and trustworthy, supporting responsible development and use across society
- Centre for Cyber Security and Resilience: brings together expertise to strengthen the security and resilience of digital systems and tackle cyber threats
National Edge AI Hub
The National Edge AI Hub is a UK-wide research initiative led by Newcastle University. It brings together 15 university partners and a growing network of industry collaborators.
The Hub connects experts in AI, cybersecurity, data science, and engineering to make intelligent systems safer, faster, and more resilient. This includes work such as developing adaptive AI models and creating next-generation cyber defences. The Hub supports a national community of researchers, developers and innovators working at the forefront of digital technology.
