Decent Work and Economic Growth

Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all.

UN Sustainable Development Goals

17 Sustainable Development Goals are at the core of the United Nations' 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. They represent a blueprint for peace and prosperity that all its member states adopted in 2015.

Find out more about how Newcastle University is working towards these goals to help create a better and fairer world.

Goal 8

Newcastle University is a large employer of the region with 6,200 staff members. Along with our fellow universities in the North East, we support tens of thousands of jobs across the region.

We support our colleagues by committing to pay a living wage and supporting their wellbeing.

Employment

Newcastle University is proud to be a Living Wage Employer as certified by the Living Wage Foundation.

The University is committed to ensuring there is no modern slavery or human trafficking in any part of its operations or supply chain.

Employee support

We have a trade union recognition agreement with the University and College Union (UCU). Additionally, there is trade union representation at each of our Colleague Welcome Events.

We aim to create an environment:

  • that is welcoming to all
  • where discrimination, misconduct, bullying and harassment is challenged, reported and action is taken

These points are included in our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy.
