The culture in Newcastle is diverse. I’ve met people who grew up in the same town I did but I’d never met them until I arrived in Newcastle. It was a nice surprise knowing there are people who could make Newcastle my home away from home.

Visa requirements
To study in the UK you’ll need to apply for a Student visa.
As part of your application you’ll need:
- a valid passport or travel document
- proof that you can support yourself in the UK, for example, bank account statements
You’ll also have to pay a healthcare surcharge. This allows you to use the National Health Service while you’re in the UK.
Tuition fees and scholarships
A degree with us is life-changing. It’s an investment in your future.
For each year of your degree you’ll pay a tuition fee. That amount can be found on our course profiles online.
How much you pay will depend on the degree you choose. You should also expect that fee to increase in each subsequent academic year.
Scholarship opportunities
To help fund your degree you could apply for a scholarship – either in Malaysia or from us. Schemes include:
- External scholarships: offered by Malaysian businesses, higher education associations and charities
- Newcastle University’s Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarships: £6,000 tuition fee award per year of your degree
- Newcastle University subject specific scholarships
- Newcastle University International Family Discounts: available if a close family member is studying with us or has graduated from Newcastle University

When you arrive: book our Airport Meet and Greet service – we’ll meet you at Newcastle International Airport and arrange transport to your accommodation. International Welcome events and your School induction will help you meet new friends and settle in.

The city was what drew me in first. I did not want to study in a big city, as I would not adjust to new life as quickly. Also, the cost of living is less than in bigger cities.
