Mathematics drives modern finance: from pricing assets to managing risk, it shapes the decisions that power global markets.

Our Mathematics with Finance BSc combines rigorous mathematics and statistics with real-world financial insight. You’ll develop analytical skills that employers in banking, investment and financial services value highly.

You’ll spend most of your time building strong foundations in mathematics and statistics. Alongside this, you’ll study accountancy and corporate finance, applying quantitative thinking to financial decision-making.

You’ll take core modules from our mathematics and statistics programmes, then apply your knowledge to specialist financial topics such as:

  • financial modelling
  • asset pricing
  • portfolio investment
  • money and banking
  • derivative markets

Corporate finance modules, including interpreting company accounts and international financial management, bring theory and practice together.

The information below is intended to provide an example of what you will study.

Most degrees are divided into stages. Each stage lasts for one academic year, and you'll complete modules totalling 120 credits by the end of each stage. 

Full details of the modules on offer will be published through the Programme Regulations and Specifications ahead of each academic year. This usually happens in May.

Our teaching is informed by research. Course content may change periodically to reflect developments in the discipline, the requirements of external bodies and partners, and student feedback.

You'll spend two-thirds of your time studying:

  • pure mathematics
  • applied mathematics
  • probability
  • statistics

You will also get an introduction to financial accounting and management accounting and finance. By the end of this stage, you'll have a broad overview of finance in business.

Work placement
