About Daniel
I studied Biomedical Sciences at Newcastle and graduated in 2025.
Biomedical Sciences is the research behind the human body and medicines. It's a very wide field of study in which you can delve into a variety of different topics such as neuroscience to drug discovery and development. Part of the reason I chose the degree is that it was incredibly research focused, allowing me to keep up to date with research in my fields of interest but partner with world-class research to also contribute to this.
Why I chose Newcastle
The city is amazing! There is always something to do, the people are so friendly and it has great links both internationally via the airport and nationally via our train station.
With it being a Russell Group institution, I knew I would get a great quality of education. With a lot of programmes, especially mine, being accredited this was great for my future employability. I knew the lecturers were experts in their field, the University had great partnerships and industry links and had funding available to give me the best experience.
Preparing for my future
The Biomedical Sciences degree provided me with a range of skills, all of which employers are looking out for. The main one is 'critical thinking', the ability to take a variety of different knowledge, research and opinions and make your own judgement about them. It also teaches you amazing hands on skills that you will need in the area such as lab skills like PCR, ELISA and many more.
I worked throughout my studies in various part time roles such as a cleaner and hospitality worker which then helped me gain transferrable skills for my first graduate role.
Since graduating I've worked for Newcastle University as an Outreach Ambassador allowing me to travel the UK informing future students of the amazing opportunities here at Newcastle.
