Meet Muhammad

BSc Computer Science

Hi, my name is Muhammad and I am an undergraduate student here at Newcastle University, I am currently studying BSc Computer Science and I am originally from Malaysia. I chose to study here in Newcastle because I love the inspiring architecture of the University and living here in general. The university has a nice mixture of old and new buildings.

Newcastle is also a fantastic city to be a student. It is very accessible city as it is not too large, and everything can be reached easily. It has great transport links including the metro service which links the city to the coast and the international airport. Newcastle also has a low cost of living compared to some other cities here in the UK.

When it comes to societies or extra-curricular activities I participate in the Malaysian Society and frequently attend Intramural Sports in Badminton and Table Tennis. These activities really helped me make meaningful connections throughout my years at Newcastle University.

What’s your favourite thing about your course?

I really enjoy the course I am studying which is BSc Computer Science at undergraduate level. Throughout the course, I learned how to absorb information quickly and be resourceful in finding relevant knowledge to help me refine my skills.

I like how diverse the modules are, which has allowed me to explore different fields in the Computer Science specialism and sparking my interests in other areas within the field.

During your studies, what pastoral support have you had access to at Newcastle University and how has it benefitted you?

Newcastle University has a great support network in place for students. Whilst I have been a student at Newcastle, I have received several check-up emails from the university concerning my wellbeing, It has been reassuring to have such a supportive environment whilst studying and has been helpful in keeping my mental health in check.

What advice would you give to a prospective student who wants to study your subject?

As someone who is currently studying at Newcastle University, my advice to you would be to be open in your learning approach. Don’t be afraid to learn new things and never fear a challenge.

Take on and explore new things as you might discover an area you are passionate about.
