Meet Aytach

Media and Public Relations MA

Hi, I’m Aytach, a postgraduate student from Azerbaijan. I wanted to study in the UK as it has one of the best education systems in the world. When I started looking at where to study, I came across Newcastle University. I was impressed by the institution’s rankings and quickly found a course that was perfect for me!

I was really impressed by the curriculum for the Media and Public Relations MA, so it didn’t take me long to decide I wanted to apply. The application process was straightforward, easy to understand, and quick to complete. I also received the Vice-Chancellor's Global Scholarship to help fund my studies.

A captivating city

When I first arrived in Newcastle, I was surprised by the climate. I thought it would be much colder! The other notable difference was the business hours it was quite an adjustment to find many shops close by 8pm. Back home in Baku, its as late as 11pm.

What I love about Newcastle is how the contemporary and old are mixed. It reminds me of my hometown. Grey Street has become one of my favourite places to visit with its magnificent Georgian and Victorian buildings.

What has impressed me most is Newcastle residents' commitment to an active lifestyle. You see so many people walking in Heaton Park, Armstrong Park, and Jesmond Dene Park

A place to share ideas

There is so much I enjoy about my course: the modules, practical tasks and assignments. I love that I have opportunities to express my thoughts and think critically at the same time. I’m gaining vital experience alongside international students from other parts of the world.

The University also has so many different societies which has helped me meet new people outside my course. I’m multilingual so I joined the Turkish and Russian-speaking societies. These groups have provided a space where I can express myself in different languages and engage in meaningful cultural exchange.

Setting me up for success

The University has provided me with so many different materials for my studies.

In the future, I want to work as a PR specialist in the private sector. Perhaps after I have more experience, I will enter the public sector and gain experience working with politicians.

My time at Newcastle University has been instrumental in developing crucial professional skills. The international environment has significantly enhanced my communication abilities, which I know will be invaluable across all industry sectors.

I've found the Careers Service’s information sessions about employment opportunities and visa requirements valuable. I’m also planning to book a 1-to-1 consultation with the team to discuss job search strategies and how to improve my CV.
