Meet Jessica

MSc Renewable Energy, Enterprise and Management (REEM)

About Jessica

I’m a master’s student from India. I chose to study at Newcastle University because my aunt and uncle are close by in Carlisle - just an hour away from Newcastle and I get to see them every weekend.

I had also heard good things about the North East, such as the people being warm and friendly. Plus, Newcastle University being a Russell Group member also convinced me to join here.

I have also been awarded the Vice Chancellor’s International Scholarship (VCIS) worth £4,000 to support my postgraduate studies. The rest of my fees are self-funded.

I would tell any prospective student to come here to Newcastle University, in a heartbeat. No two ways about it!

My favourite thing about the course

Having a background in energy engineering, I thought a Master’s in renewable energy would be good to add to my profile, and it turned out great as I thoroughly enjoyed the modules. My most favourite thing about the course are the people - both my lecturers and classmates - and I’ve made lifelong friendships during my postgraduate study.

I like to spend my time in Stephenson building, feeling proud I’m an engineer. I enjoy teamwork, meeting people from diverse cultures and backgrounds, and listening to the stories from across the globe.

Student life at Newcastle

I wanted to study in a small and peaceful area, and I think Newcastle is the perfect blend between a town and a city. I absolutely enjoy living in Newcastle for its peaceful vibe and famous ‘Geordie’ hospitality. Above all, I’m extremely happy that the sea is close by.

Exploring future career options

I have learnt that teamwork is key, and I've been able to improve my project management, leadership, and multitasking skills. Working on an enterprise project of my interest was fulfilling, enhancing my research, communication, and professional skills, while my supervisor and professional network supported my growth.
