We are working hard to accept students who meet the terms of their original offer from us.
We recognise, however, that some programmes have an externally-determined cap where numbers are tightly restricted because of space or specialist facilities. This is particularly the case for clinical subjects such as medicine and dentistry.
We will ensure as many students as possible can be accepted for 2020. Where this is not possible, we will guarantee a deferred place for next year.
We would encourage you not to decline your place with us until you know when your original firm choice university will be confirming places for students. You should therefore check the guidance from your firm university and call them.

The University was not informed of the change in advance and found out at the same time as students and schools.
Yes you will be able to appeal your Centre Assessed Grades.
If you have concerns about how your grades were arrived at you should talk to your school or college about your options.
All appeals must be made by the school or college. This summer, your grade is protected, meaning that it will not go down to a lower grade as a result of an appeal.
The deadline for appeals is 17 September 2020.
You will need to let us know the outcome of your appeal by 7 September (or 31 August for Medicine and Dentistry).
Yes, if your Centre Assessed Grades mean you now meet the terms of your original offer at Newcastle and there are no spaces this year, you will be given a place for 2021

Our courses will not be oversubscribed in 2021 and we would welcome an application from you in the coming cycle. If you didn’t meet the grades of your offer at Newcastle, and plan to resit your exams this autumn and have not been made an unconditional offer, we will offer you a deferred place for 2021 entry if you meet the conditions of your original offer in your autumn exams.
Please email ug-admissions@ncl.ac.uk so that we can record that you would be interested in a deferred 2021 offer. Please include in the email, your:
- full name
- UCAS number
- date of birth
Until we have worked through the Centre Assessed Grades from UCAS we will not know the impact on our student numbers. Please be assured that the safety of our students on campus and in our accommodation sites is our priority.
You can read more about how we are keeping our students safe at https://belong.ncl.ac.uk/blog/2020-student-experience or View our Covid-19 FAQs for the latest information for prospective students on our response to the pandemic.
Please don’t worry. We will consider your new Centre Assessed Grades against the terms of your original PARTNERS offer, but if your original grades based on Ofqual's algorithm are higher, your grades will not be lowered.
If you have any questions about PARTNERS, please email the PARTNERS team at partners@ncl.ac.uk or call 0191 208 6094 and leave a voicemail.
The team will get back to you as soon as they can to discuss your offer.
We have been looking carefully at all the Centre Assessed Grades we received and have taken a range of factors into account, as we would with any confirmation process.
If you have any enquiries about your offer please get in touch by emailing us at ug-admissions@newcastle.ac.uk
Medicine and Dentistry
Students hoping to study medicine this year are in a uniquely difficult situation. Unlike the majority of university courses, medicine has tightly restricted entry numbers which are determined by Government.
We are awaiting guidance from government on what to do next and are very sorry for the uncertainty for students who are in this situation. We will update our FAQs as soon as we find out more.
We welcome the announcement that the cap on medical student numbers, and those on other programmes, has now been lifted.
When we have received and reviewed the Centre Assessed Grade data we will have a better understanding of how this has impacted students who applied to our programme.
The University has given an undertaking that a place will be offered to any student who has now met our entry requirements either to start in 2020 or 2021.
We hope to be able to provide a further update soon.
Numbers are tightly restricted as we are capped by the government on the number of students we can take. We are now seeking clarity from the Government and relevant agencies about ensuring as many students as possible can be accepted to their first choice University.
Where this is not possible, we will guarantee a deferred place for next year.
Yes, but we cannot guarantee you 2020 entry, your place may be deferred to 2021.

We are not increasing the number of students on each course currently.
Yes, there will still be places available, and we are still encouraging future students to apply to join us in 2021.
UCAT scores vary each year depending on scores achieved by students. There is no indication that this will be vastly different from usual.
Placements and teaching will not be affected by this. All students who enrol in 2020 or 2021 will receive the planned approach to teaching and student experience.
It is not possible to say right now. This will depend on how many students defer entry.
We will be classing this as the first time you sit an exam and not a resit.
We recommend you accept the offer in the interim. If post-review you are not joining us to study in 2020, please contact the accommodation team urgently on +44 (0)191 222 5102 who will update your record accordingly and cancel any contractual liability.
If you have paid a deposit for a Managed Partnership room, this will be refunded to you.
If you defer your studies to next year, you can cancel your accommodation contract at any time before your official contract start date.
We recommend you accept the offer in the interim to ensure you have a room in case you are unable to defer. Once your deferral has been approved, contact the accommodation team urgently on +44 (0)191 222 5102 who will update your record accordingly and cancel any contractual liability.
If you have paid a deposit for a Managed Partnership room, this will be refunded to you. For entry in 2021 you will need to make a new application and we will contact you by email when the online application is available.

Working with local accommodation providers, we will be able to provide new students joining us for full year undergraduate and postgraduate taught courses with a purpose-built bedroom.
Where possible, the Accommodation Team will take into account your preferences for location and room type. However, it is important to note they are not always able to allocate you to your choice.
Accommodation applications have to be complete by 7 September* and the Accommodation Team will aim to have rooms allocated by 14 September*.
(*Due to the technical difficulties that the University is experiencing, we will extend the dates noted above.)
