Statement by Professor Chris Day, Vice-Chancellor and President and Professor Julie Sanders, Deputy Vice-Chancellor,
18.30 Friday 21 August

At Newcastle we have been working hard throughout this process to be as flexible as possible by revising our offers and particularly supporting students from traditionally low-participation backgrounds.

We are doing everything we can to accommodate as many students as possible on their preferred courses while bearing in mind the constraints we face this year as a result of Covid-19 and the required physical distancing.  Where we do not have capacity, we will guarantee a deferred place for next year.

We have now received the revised Centre-Assessed Grades (CAGs) from UCAS and our teams are working through this data now to understand what this means for us in light of the Government’s latest announcement.

Our aim is to ensure that when our phone lines open at 12 noon on Monday 24th August we are in the best possible position to support those students who have now met the terms of their offer from us.

We are extremely grateful to all our teams who are working round the clock to support students at this difficult time.

Volunteers will be working over the weekend to look at timetables, capacity, teaching resource, accommodation and student support and next week we have our Confirmation and Clearing volunteers back on duty to support the phone lines.

This is still a rapidly changing situation and we will continue to update you regularly.  As always, all the information will be available and updated here.
