Our Vision and Strategy

Through unlocking talent, advancing knowledge and strengthening communities, we seek to make a meaningful difference locally, nationally and globally.

Renewing our commitment

As we move towards our 200th anniversary in 2034, we are renewing our commitment to our strategy and refreshing our vision and goals to ensure they continue to guide and strengthen our future direction.

Building on our strong foundations, we are creating the conditions that will enable us to remain sustainable and ready to embrace new opportunities.

Together, we’re shaping the future

Our strategy, co-developed with colleagues, students and partners, is our collective ambition for Newcastle University. While the world is changing, our purpose remains the same. To harness our excellence in research, education, creativity and innovation to create a positive impact for our students, communities and wider society.

Our values at the heart of everything we do. They continue to guide us. While we have simplified the way we express them, the foundations remain unchanged.

Our enduring commitments to inclusion, social and environmental justice, tackling inequalities, sustainability, and academic freedom continue to underpin our purpose and guide our actions. They remain fundamental to who we are and how we create positive change.

We are shaping a new generation of university through our supporting strategies and signature strengths. One that’s globally connected and rooted in our places. We’re creating knowledge and opportunity through partnership and responsive collaboration. We will continue to break down traditional boundaries, work alongside our communities and partners, and address the challenges that matter most to

Next Generation Newcastle is the programme that will help us deliver these ambitions. Powered by our people, it will simplify how we work, strengthen collaboration and enable us to focus on what matters most – creating lasting impact through education, research and engagement.

We are united by our purpose, confident in our values and ambitious about what lies ahead.
