Meet Rahul Joseph

MSc Digital Marketing

About Rahul Joseph

My master’s at Newcastle is actually the second one I’ve studied for in the UK. After my first degree, I worked in the city and felt truly at home. Then, with a Vice Chancellor International Scholarship (PG) from Newcastle University, I had the chance to upskill and change my career path.

I’m developing a startup idea and Newcastle has allowed me to follow my long-term dream of becoming a tech entrepreneur. Here, I’m developing real-world skills built on the academic excellence of the university.

The MSc Digital Marketing is taught by amazing tutors who are leaders in the digital field, the very people doing the cutting-edge research in this area. With their expert knowledge, my skills will be ahead of the game – not just in the digital world but in a whole spectrum of roles.

A strong foundation for the future

When I first chose to study in the UK, I wanted to experience a new culture and learn from a global community. My main motivation was the strong focus on research-based study, which allows for a more practical application of knowledge than traditional learning back home in India. I wanted to gain in-depth expertise through this rigorous, hands-on structure.

My partner studied at Newcastle, so I had real confidence in the standards here. Most importantly, as a Russell Group university, it provides the better research opportunities essential for my advanced studies, setting me up for future success.

Newcastle University was my clear choice due to its high global ranking and consistently excellent quality.

The one place that felt like home

The people of Newcastle are exceptionally friendly, and the city has everything I need. I have confidence in the University's quality because I know the area and the welcoming, ambitious atmosphere firsthand. I really love the energy of the city, especially the weekend noise. It just feels alive.

On a personal level, as a photography enthusiast, I am constantly drawn to the amazing architecture and the Quayside. It is such a beautiful city.

I love exploring different cuisines around the city. As a professional powerlifter, Im often in the gym. Thats my version of fun! Socialising isn't naturally my strong suit, so I tend to meet people organically while Im training, or sometimes at university events, or at a few of my favourite hangout spots in the city like Lane7.

Of all the places I travelled across the UK, even all the way up to the Orkney Islands, Newcastle is where I truly feel at home. The Geordie people are so warm and welcoming. The sight of the Quayside with all the bridges is absolutely beautiful.

Amazing experiences, with more to come

Newcastle has shaped my future. My responsive tutors have given me useful feedback, and the course has taught me essential career skills. Crucially, I gained so much by having access to powerful digital databases and software. I believe the facilities have fully prepared me for my professional career. I also feel that there’s more to come, more amazing experiences that will push me even closer to my goals.

My experience of the university’s services has been amazing. The support is so easy to access and is exactly what students need. The career service has been really helpful, I'm incredibly grateful for the system here, it really makes a difference.

Advice for your next career move

If anyone is thinking of studying here, my advice is to be honest in your statement and make it clear why you want to study at Newcastle. Don’t just apply for the sake of a degree, show that you’re ready to put your heart into it.

This degree is for someone who wants to know more than just the "what" of digital marketing. It’s for someone curious about the “why” and “how” and “why not”. The amazing professors and rich course content will shape you for any number of roles.
