What student support services have you accessed at university and how has this helped you?

I've used the careers website to help me edit my CV and seek advice on careers.

I've also used the wellbeing services at the Kings Gate building ,when I've been worried over university and have felt so supported by them.

How have you found the social aspect of university?

I've found Newcastle University so welcoming. It's full of fun, friendly and open-minded people. I've had an amazing time meeting new people and making friends for life.

Describe your degree to a future student

It covers a variety of content. From modules covering media theory, politics, cultural studies, to more practical modules which teach PR and advertising. 

I loved learning about relevant media topics and theories. The course is adaptable and applicable to all aspects of media. That's whether you're interested in film, celebrity culture, social policy or news media.

What do you enjoy about your degree?

I enjoy the media theory and applying what I learn to the modern media that I'm interested in - like social media events and movies.

I really love learning about feminism and politics too.

What was the application process like and what are your top tips for applying to Newcastle?

I found the application process nice and easy. My advice would be to write with enthusiasm for media and include what current media interests you and why.

If you show you have a passion for the subject, you'll be fine.

How has Newcastle helped you realise your future?

Newcastle University has given me so much confidence in my writing skills and creativity. I've enjoyed my coursework and always received positive feedback and appreciation for my ideas.

It's helped my overall confidence when it comes to communication also. Through working open days, talking in seminars and participating in seminar presentations, it's helped me feel less anxious and more outgoing. This has helped me realise I would like to go into a career which involves media, creativity and people.

I'd like to work in PR or Marketing sector for a while. However, the idea of going into some sort of social or cultural policy is also something which interests me.

Why should a student pick this degree?

This degree has something for everyone. The theories and content you learn can be applied to everyday life and a variety of careers. 

It'll help you in whatever job direction you chose to take as it's relevant and always adapted by lecturers to fit the changing cultural landscape. It's interesting as well as fun and practical.
