Our handy tours will help you find your way around our campus and see our key buildings.
2. Students' Union
Head straight up from King’s Gate. On your left is the Newcastle University Students' Union (NUSU).
NUSU is run by students, for students. There is a student advice centre, food venues and student media outlets for our Student Newspaper (The Courier), TV and radio stations.
The Students' Union also often hosts pop up shops for posters and plants, music and entertainment gigs, and is home to 160+ different societies.

4. Student Forum
Continue up the path. To your left is the Student Forum, a relaxing outdoor social space. Sit down and soak up the campus atmosphere.
The Forum contains Generation, a sculpture by Joseph Hillier, a Newcastle University Fine Art graduate. The three heads represent the three ‘ages’ of human and industrial production: Bronze, Industrial, and Digital.
Continue on left for:
The Bedson Building (SUBJECT AREAS: Chemistry),
The Herschel Building (SUBJECT AREAS: Maths, Statistics and Physics) and
The King George VI Building (SUBJECT AREAS: Education, Communication and Language Sciences).
5. The Arches
Straight ahead of you is the Arches, one of the most iconic parts of campus.
The Arches are such a staple of Newcastle University that there is a reproduction of them at our Malaysia Campus!
6. Armstrong Building
Go through the Arches and enter one of the oldest and prettiest parts of our campus – the Old Quadrangle. To your left is the Armstrong Building. Inside is the King’s Hall, where graduation ceremonies are held.
SUBJECT AREAS: Archaeology, Classics, History, Music, Marine Science and Technology.
7. The Percy Building
The Percy Building, the building with the green roof at the end of the Quadrangle, is home to the School of English Literature, Language and Linguistics.
It's filled with seminar and study spaces. They also sell £1 coffee to students during term time.
SUBJECT AREAS: English Literature, English Language, Linguistics
8. The Old Library Building
Follow to the end of the Quadrangle and head down the ramp. The Old Library building should be on the right.
Home to Courtyard restaurant, a popular on campus eatery, the Old Library building boasts a state of the art language resource centre- where students can take part in the University Wide Language programme to learn a language alongside their degree.

9. Ridley Buildings
Cross the traffic lights straight ahead from the Old Library Building and you’ll find ourselves on Queen Victoria Road.
This is the home of the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) , which has been providing healthcare to communities in Newcastle for over 250 years. Our Medical School works closely with the RVI for placement opportunities.
Slide slightly right and turn left up Lovers Lane. The first two buildings on your right are Ridley Buildings 1 and 2.
The Ridley Buildings are the main home for Biology and Marine Sciences. They host a suite of 10 modern research-ready laboratories.
SUBJECT AREAS: Biology, Zoology, Marine Biology, Marine Zoology.
10. Medical and Dental School
Continue up Lovers Lane until you reach the Medical School on your left.
This is largest building at Newcastle University, complete with:
specialist anatomy labs,
dental clinical simulation facilities,
the Walton Library (a medical specific library)
and Bites Café.

11. Dame Margaret Barbour Building
Walk up past the Medical School. The building on your left is the Dame Margaret Barbour Building.
The Dame Margaret Barbour Building contains excellent practical facilities, such as a forensic interviewing suite, media and behaviour lab, and medical consultation rooms.
Adjacent on the left to the Dame Margaret Barbour Building is Park View Student Village, an en suite undergraduate accommodation option.
SUBJECT AREAS: Psychology, Nutrition.
12. Sports Centre
If you continue past Dame Margaret Barbour, slightly on the right is the University Sports Centre.
Our Sports Centre has undergone a £30 million refurbishment, with world class indoor and outdoor facilities, including two main Sports Halls, a state of the art gym with student membership options, and four new studio spaces.
At Newcastle, sport is for everyone, whether you are a high performance athlete competing in the British Universities and Colleges League (BUCS) or just want to give it a go with our taster sessions.
Straight ahead and right from the Sports Centre is another undergraduate accommodation, Marris House, which offers 180 conveniently located washbasin rooms.

13. The Stephenson Building
Head back down Lovers lane. Once you reach the bottom, cross Queen Victoria Road at the roundabout towards the Stephenson Building on your left.
The Stephenson Building is a world class engineering hub completed in 2025, which includes a maker space for engineering students to develop their skills in 3D printing, designing, embroidering and glass blowing.
SUBJECT AREAS: Mechanical Engineering, Marine Technology
14. Kensington Terrace and Park Terrace
Head straight passed Stephenson and right. You’ll see Kensington and Park Terrace student accommodation.
These are modern, en suite rooms for undergraduate students that overlook vibrant Exhibition Park.

16. The Phillip Robinson Library
Keeping the Devonshire Building to your left, go through the Hadrian Bridge walkway
The main University Library, The Phillip Robinson, is straight ahead. It’s open 24 hours a day, seven days a week during term time.
Behind the Library is Windsor Terrace Student Accommodation, just a six-minute walk from the centre of campus and Newcastle’s shops, bars and restaurants.
