Assistant Grants and Contracts Manager

Background

Introduction

I work in the Grants and Contracts team which is part of the University Research Office.  The team's role as a whole is to provide efficient, timely support to academics applying for research grants in the SAgE and HASS faculties. 

Background

I joined the University in 1989 and have worked in varied fields such as Adult Education, Continuing Professional Development, conference management and the original Technology Transfer Office.  I moved into Grants and Contracts in 2005 as Grants Administrator before taking up my current post in 2008

Roles and Responsibilities

As one of the Assistant Grants and Contract managers, I provide advice and support on a range of activities to staff in the research environment from the initial application through to project set up.  This includes;

  • Advising on costings, eligibility, funder guidelines and University Policies
  • Providing official University approval of applications for submission
  • Checking terms and conditions of award.
  • Drafting/negotiation of contracts - including collaboration agreements, subcontracts, studentships and confidentiality agreements.
  • Liaison with the relevant services in the University to ensure effective management of the award.

As part of my role I am an authorised signatory on research applications. 

I currently work part-time and am in the office on Tuesday, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

 Qualifications

BA Combined Honours (Literature and Psychology)
Post-graduate Diploma in Secretarial and Business Administration
