Staff Profile

Hilary Noone

Faculty Research and Projects Officer

I bring a wide range of experience from the public, commercial, higher education and research sectors into my current role as Research and Projects Officer. In addition, I work across a number of equality, diversity and inclusion initiatives to actively promote more positive, creative, transparent and inclusive cultures, where everyone is valued.

As the Research and Projects Officer in the Humanities and Social Sciences (HaSS) Faculty, my responsibilities have two main strands:

  • Strategic development of HaSS-anchored Newcastle Centres for Research Excellence (NUCoREs). This portfolio covers a range of interdisciplinary and intersectoral themes, from Cities to Heritage, drawing together national and international research, teaching, policy, impact, engagement and professional development.
  • I work collaboratively with academic colleagues throughout the faculty to develop and demonstrate positive and progressive research environments that support all staff and students to reach their full potential.

Additional Roles

I am an active member of the Newcastle University Women’s Committee (NU Women) and the NU Women Professional Services Committee. I champion gender issues and promote parity of esteem.

Research Culture Lead for the Association of Research Managers and Administrators (ARMA). My role is to empower Research Managers and Administrators (RMAs) to engender change, and to work with a range of organisations and stakeholders to reimagine research culture.

Outside of work, I work with a number of charities and social enterprises on funding, business and policy development. I have broad interests around architecture, culture and sustainability, and am passionate about mentalwellbeing and sharing knowledge to create better social environments.
