Dr Karen Morgan

Business Development Manager - Translational Research

Background

As part of Research and Enterprise Services Enterprise team at Newcastle University, I am responsible for all aspects of 'enterprise', including consultancy, patents, licensing, commercial collaborations, project management, knowledge transfer and all related services. An important aspect of my role is to formulate a commercialisation strategy for promising opportunities, to market new technologies to industry, as well as assisting in spin-out company formation.

Previously, I was Funding Development Manager for Translational Research based within the Newcastle Joint Research Office that supports research across Newcastle University, Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals Foundation Trust and all other NHS organisations across the North East.

This followed some time spent as Research Facilitator for Hadrian Primary Care Alliance, driving delivery of NIHR Portfolio adopted studies, development of research studies as well as a trainer in Good Clinical Practice for Research (GCP) for the NIHR Clinical Research Network.

Prior to that, I was employed for 25 years within the pharmaceutical industry in a variety of sales, training, leadership and business development roles. Companies include GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), Abbott Laboratories, Altana Pharma, Sanofi Aventis and Astra Zeneca (AZ).
