Aims

This module provides students with the underpinning scientific and clinical knowledge to assess and interpret extracranial vascular and peripheral venous ultrasound investigations; to safely contribute to the diagnosis and screening of peripheral vascular disease (macro and microvascular), abdominal aortic aneurysms.

Teaching Rationale And Relationship

The knowledge is delivered via a series of lectures in the face to face teaching block. Lectures are supported by small group teaching and practicals. Students will gain the knowledge required to undertake project based learning in the workplace via directed reading, independent research and independent study.

Independent study is supported by VLE.

Assessment Rationale And Relationship

A written exercise is used to assess critical thinking skills and the understanding and application of the knowledge developed as well as the student's ability to apply this knowledge to real life problems and service developments.

The written examination assesses the students’ critical understanding and application of knowledge. The examination also provides an opportunity to assess the students’ acquisition of appropriate knowledge and their ability to present that knowledge in a written format.

In order to pass this module candidates must achieve a mark of at least 50% in the written examination.
