Aims

The aims of the module are:
A1 – Understand the metocean conditions and their influence on the marine operation.
A2 – Understanding Concept and significance of Asset management.
A3 – Understand the basic knowledge of asset management.
A4 – Master the skills of performing asset management.

Outline Of Syllabus

The module increases the awareness of the significance, knowledge, and skills of performing asset management in marine engineering.

Topics include: metocean environments and their influence on facility reliability, FMECA and fault tree analysis of marine components, non-destructive testing techniques, concept of condition monitoring, condition monitoring methods and advanced signal processing and fault diagnosis techniques, maintenance strategies, case studies of operation and maintenance of marine facilities.

Teaching Rationale And Relationship

Formal lectures are designed to deliver the theories and their relation to the current practice in the marine and offshore industries and to explain the use of major techniques. (IKO1-IKO6).
In the revision and tutorial sessions the students are provided with the opportunity to gain oral feedback from the lecturing staff.
The independent study gives time for the students to read the classic and leading edge papers on those topics in their own time and at their own space (ISO1-ISO3).

Should the public health situation require it, the present-in-person teaching activities will be replaced by synchronous online sessions

Students should consult their individual timetable for up-to-date delivery information

Assessment Rationale And Relationship

The exam allows students to demonstrate knowledge, understanding and the possession of subject-specific, cognitive skills. This also allows students to demonstrate intended learning outcomes across a wide range of topics described in the syllabus (IKO1-IKO6).


Should the public health situation require it, the planned examination scheduled to be completed present-in-person will be replaced by an open book, online examination to be completed within a defined 24 hour period.
