Aims

The BGM3058 module (Integrated Genetics) is designed to:

•       encourage students to consolidate their knowledge of fundamental genetic principles as taught throughout the Biomedical Genetics programme.

•       reinforce the development of important critical skills including interpretation of the scientific literature, data analysis and problem solving.

•       provide a support framework to enable effective preparation for the final written examinations.

Outline Of Syllabus

The module prepares students for the Integrated Biomedical Genetics exam. The Biomedical Genetics paper examines knowledge gained across all modules relevant to the biomedical genetics degree.

Teaching Rationale And Relationship

The skills sessions are used to discuss and review core scientific material and key concepts in a concise manner (K1-K2,S1- S4). Skills sessions aid in understanding the current research literature and the experimental basis of key concepts and knowledge (K1-K2, S1-S4). These sessions provide experience of data analysis using practice questions, stimulating discussion and development of critical skills and problem solving (K2, S1-S4). The skills sessions provide opportunities to increase understanding by reflection and discussion (K1-K2, S1).
