Overview

The Global Human Resource Management MSc programme will give you the professional skills and academic knowledge to manage people in challenging and diverse contexts.

It is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD). The CIPD is the leading professional body for HR professionals. It is the only HR institution in the world that recognises HR professionals through chartered membership. With over 160,000 members globally, it influences working lives around the world.

This global programme also aligns with the standards of the American-based Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM). This is the world's largest association devoted to human resource management.

Our compulsory modules will give you a strong, critical understanding of the key issues in the field of global HRM. You can tailor your learning by choosing from a range of specialist optional modules. This includes being able to pursue either a practice-based project or a dissertation.

Throughout the programme, you can gain valuable real-world insights from practice. In recent years we have hosted a wide range of guest speakers. They have shared their experiences, challenges, and career advice, bringing real-world insights straight to our students. They have included experts from:

The HR Practitioner module offers the opportunity to work collaboratively with industry.

You will also have the opportunity to apply for the Business School Mobility module. This is a non-credit bearing exchange opportunity. It will further enhance your skills and attributes to enter a wide range of global careers.

Our programme is CIPD-accredited. As such, we continually review our provision against the the CIPD's Profession Map.

The programme provides you with the practical knowledge, skills and attributes used by HR professionals across the world. It will enable you to:

Postgraduate Study Abroad

Dual Award with Grenoble École de Management

Spend an additional academic year at Grenoble École de Management in Grenoble, France.

After completing your postgraduate studies with us, you would join the last year of their Grande École programme, Masters in Management - M2 year.

On successful completion of the programme, you will be awarded:

  • your Newcastle University degree
  • an MSc in Management from Grenoble

As part of the Grenoble programme, you will need to either:

  • complete an internship (minimum duration 13 weeks, full time), or
  • provide evidence of equivalent work experience, either in France or in another country

Please note that students who complete this scheme will not be eligible for the UK graduate work visa.

Semester abroad

Study a complementary subject for one semester at a European partner university. You would study with the partner university on an exchange basis.

The experience takes place at the end of your studies, once you have submitted your dissertation/final project. You'll develop new skills to set you apart from other graduates.

Studies undertaken at a partner university will not count towards a double/dual degree award. However, you'll receive a transcript from your host university evidencing your achievements.

Please note that students who complete this scheme will not be eligible for the UK graduate work visa.
