We have a range of scholarships available for Chemical Engineering students.
Ann Cairns Scholarship 2022-23 Entry
Provided by
Ann Cairns (MSc Medical Statistics, 1979)
Supporting women to study STEM subjects reflects the shared ethos of the Ann Cairns Scholarship, the Women’s Giving Circle and Newcastle University. The scholarship is designed to encourage more women into these subjects.
Details
Three scholarships are available to female students entering stage 1 in 2022-23 in the Schools of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics, Statistics and Physics. Scholarships are for £2,000 per annum each for three-years of study. Application is by competitive process.
Eligibility
To be eligible for this award you must:
- Be in stage 1 in 2022-23 in one of the following Schools: Engineering, Computing, or Mathematics, Statistics and Physics;
- Preference will be given to female home students, ordinarily resident in the UK;
- Be able to demonstrate that you are capable of high performance.

The Brian Dabell Scholarship is provided by Brian Dabell (BSc Mechanical Engineering, 1971) to offer scholarship funding for a student on an MEng course through their four-year degree for whom finance is a barrier to their learning.
Details
One scholarship is available to stage 1 undergraduate students taking an MEng degree programme in the School of Engineering.
The award is for £5,000 per year for up to four years of study.
Application is by competitive process.

To be eligible for this award you must:
Be an undergraduate home (UK based) student, entering stage 1 of study in 2022-23.
Have and be able to demonstrate financial need for the award. This could include:
- Unable to cover basic cost of living;
- Unable to participate in extra-curricular activities;
- Having to work in excess of 10 hours per week in a job.
Applications from candidates from widening participation and diverse backgrounds are encouraged.

The Eddie and Elizabeth Thomas MEng Scholarship is provided by Howard Thomas (BEng Chemical and Process Engineering, 1989) to offer scholarship funding for students on an MEng course through their four-year degree for whom finance is a barrier to their learning.

One scholarship is available to students accepted on to an undergraduate Chemical Engineering degree programme in the School of Engineering. An award of £3,000 for the first year of study only will be made and application is by competitive process.

To be eligible for this award you must:
- be a Stage 1 undergraduate student – preference will be given to home students ordinarily resident in the UK;
- have applied to study or be studying on an undergraduate Chemical Engineering degree programme.

Scott-Briggs Bursary 2022-23

Details
One bursary of £1,000 for one year of study only is available to support students from the North East in either the School of Natural and Environmental Sciences, School of Engineering or on a Statistics degree programme at Newcastle University.
Eligibility
To be eligible for this award, you must:
- Be a stage 1 home student in 2022-23 in either the School of Natural and Environmental Sciences, School of Engineering, School of Biomedical, Nutritional and Sport Sciences or on a Statistics degree programme;
- Preference will be given to students who lived in one of the following locations on application to Newcastle University: Northumberland; North Tyneside; the City of Newcastle; Gateshead; South Tyneside; the City of Sunderland; or County Durham.
You must also demonstrate in your application your commitment to studies and aspirations for your future, and how the scholarship will make a difference to you.
