Futures Festival
Here at Newcastle, we are working together to reimagine the future of our University.
Innovate and influence the campus of the future
Our Futures Festival brings staff and students together to innovate and influence the campus of the future. The last year has been challenging for us all. That's led to incredible digital innovation, creativity and opportunity.
Be part of the conversation and shape our future
The festival is challenging our staff and students to:
- be part of the conversation
- shape our future
We are taking the lessons we have learnt from COVID-19. We're building on our strong history of innovation.
We want to shape our University for the future, based on our vision and values.
Key themes
The campus of the future
How do we create (and curate) appropriate and effective spaces physically and virtually that allow for interaction, innovation, research and learning?
The digital campus
What does our digital infrastructure need to do, provide, facilitate to become a seamless part of the experience for both students and colleagues?
The future of research
How do we continue to be a leading research-intensive University, how do we understand, value and accelerate our research activity and impact?
The future of learning, teaching and assessment
How will students and future learners want to engage with universities? What value will students seek to gain, at what stages in their careers and how will they want to interact with universities?
The future of work
How do we modernise our working practices and deliver a colleague experience that feels inclusive, open, accessible, innovative and infused with our institutional values?
Summer programme of events
From May to September we have delivered a summer programme of events, workshops and talks. These have given opportunities for staff and students to engage with the discussion and feed into plans for our future.
The festival closing event is taking place on 15 September. So don't forget to register for the Futures Festival Grand Finale on Wednesday 15 September.
All colleagues and students are invited to join the Futures Group as they explore what we have discovered over the course of our Festival experience. The event runs from 9:00am-11:00am, and you can register here. Places are limited, so be sure to book soon!
